Datatec buys Indonesian distributor

Datatec’s purchase of Netpoleon gives subsidiary Westcon its first significant presence in Indonesia, says CEO Jens Montanana.

Dual-listed Datatec says its Westcon subsidiary will buy Indonesian value-added distributor PT Netpoleon for an undisclosed amount.

The purchase of the Indonesian firm will be settled through $1 million in shares and cash. Netpoleon provides IT security, networking and convergence solutions, as well as managed and training services.

Before the acquisition, Netpoleon operated as a franchisee of Westcon Group in Singapore.

Expanding reach

Datatec says the deal “builds on Westcon’s presence in Southeast Asia and gives Westcon its first significant presence in Indonesia, a large and fast growing market in the region”.

CEO Jens Montanana says: “Indonesia is a rapidly developing market economy with the fourth largest population in the world. This move into Indonesia’s fast growing ICT sector allows Westcon to expand its vendors’ regional presence and better service its customers’ requirements.”

The acquisition will enable Westcon to address its vendors’ regional requirements and the needs of its multinational customers more fully, says Datatec in a statement.

Adding to offerings

Netpoleon has a portfolio of solutions that cover seven vendors and has been operated by the current management team since it started business in 2000.

It also provides customers with a broad array of services, ranging from managed services and maintenance, to implementation and training services. Netpoleon achieved unaudited revenue of $11 million for the year to December 2011.

”Netpoleon’s vendor portfolio is complementary and the acquisition offers opportunities for Westcon to expand into this market with its other vendor solutions, bringing significant possibilities for quickly increasing the market’s significance to Westcon,” says Montanana.
